Journey Begins...or began about a month ago.

I was ignoring the Dan 2.0 portion of this site.  I kept failing at any attempt at dieting.  It just sucked. Then I remembered that I had done very well on low carb dieting many years ago.  I’d lost 80 lbs.

Well, I went to the doctor on June 11, 2008.

I was having a lot of pain in my neck.  It got so bad that I couldn’t help but see a doc.  When they weighed me, I was astounded to see that I weighed 335 lbs. 

I have gained a lot of weight since the accident, because I did a lot of eating and very little moving.  I knew that I was getting up there, but…

335 LBS!!

It was horrifying.  I decided at that moment I was going to fix it.  I immediately decided I was going to go on an eating program that I knew about.  Low Carb.  I don’t know why I hadn’t thought to do it before.  Maybe I thought it would be too hard.  Whatever.

I did it.  I went to the store and bought my LC staples.  Ground Beef Patties, Cottage Cheese, Pickles, Pork Rinds, and a thing of Cream Cheese into which to dip the pork rinds.  I haven’t looked back since…

of course I look like a supertard in the first photo.  My glasses are all crooked and I’m holding my arms in a really weird way.  But hey…

There is a substancial difference.  The second one does make me look bigger, cuz its a bit closer to the camera than the first one.  But Yep…23 lbs.

 Now I don’t mind if you don’t think that Atkins, which is my low carb option, is healthy.  Or that you’ve heard all sorts of horrible things about it.  You are completely free to have your own opinion and I am completely free to disregard it. :)  I mean no offense.  Here’s the thing for me:

1) I need to lose weight.

2) Low fat, calorie restriction diets don’t work for me.  I just sit around being miserable and hungry all the time.  So when I get a bit depressed, I’ll kill off a half gallon of ice cream and a bag of Doritos.  This diet actually help me control those cravings.  I eat much less on this diet.  I don’t crave sugar that much at all.  LC dieting is, by default, a high protein way of eating, so the protein makes me feel full faster.  In short, this diet works for me.

3) I don’t see myself eating raw foods, vegan, or any other repressively restrictive diet.  Yes, LC is restrictive, but it restricts things that make me feel better not eating them.  Like sugar.

4) I see great benefits from the diet already.  My skin has cleared up, my energy level is slowly rising..though not as fast as I’d like.  My acid reflux, which has been bugging me for years is GONE. My throat pain, which sent me to the hospital is gone. I sleep much better than I did. Oh, and I LOST 23 LBS IN A MONTH!!
